for me, packing is a series of strange juxtapositions:

i am packing and leaving, but in reality i am the one who is staying.
i am busier now than during finals.
i'm preparing for the future (and working through the present) by remembering people and events in my past.
the one person i want to spend time with this summer isn't here this weekend.
in fact, despite saying goodbye to many good friends, he's the one i miss the most right now.
coffee club is over and i still have the mugs, coffee pot, and coffee.

my life in a dorm room (revisited)

i have summer and winter wardrobes, guitar, all my books, all but a couple wine boxes of memories (photo albums etc), bedding, computer and printer, dishes/coffeemaker, etc.

basically i have too much STUFF.

time to purge ...

i'm different now than i was then. clearly.

alright, time for the annual "highlights of danae's school year" post. i love reflecting, because it either results in greater appreciation for seemingly random life events, or it illustrates how confusing and meaningless life really is. usually (and hopefully) the former.

2005-2006 ~ sophomore year:

~ rooming with kati: an ELL night owl friendship deeping and being strengthened. kati, i've learned a LOT from you this year! maybe someday i'll find a card with "thank you" written in big enough letters, but i think the greenies would get on my case for using too much paper.

~ disappointment: never tunneling through the wall to katie's closet ... maybe next year we can tunnel underground between your house and college ave. that's called intentional friendship, by the way ... anything to keep up with you next year! ps. living next door (or on your couch) has been precious to me.

~ continuing to meet with leslie: prayer warrior and friend and mentor. i'm so glad she'll be around next year.

~ coffee club: friends with stories --> friends with the same stories --> friends creating stories together --> aaron retelling our stories --> friends deciding stories aren't enough so we'll all live together next year.

~ church: home. this sunday, it's official.

~ youth group: discovering my passion for this group, growing in relationship and understanding of ministry, and teaching various pain games to unsuspecting high schoolers.

~ DJ: there really aren't words. if i tried, i'd just sound like one of those movies i laugh at. so i won't try. suffice it to say that i got the better end of the deal because i'm not the one dating a wheaton college student.

~ family: back in the states, getting married, going to college. yeah, it feels different to be the family member undergoing the least amount of transition!!

~ orlando: this place won't leave me alone!!!!!! aaaaarrrrrgggggghhhh!!!

~ HNGR: oh, creator of difficult life-questions!! it's all worth trying to figure out how i'm called to interact with the world and global needs (spiritual and physical).

~ IDS: basically, life is like a giant choose your own adventure book. the basic framework is a call to love God and love others - IDS and HNGR are ways of asking how i am specifically able to love others in light of my love for God.

~ faith like a child: simple, and simply difficult.

~ boston, new orleans, new orleans, florida, florida

~ last summer in south bend to this summer in wheaton ... sometimes life runs in cycles so that i can learn the same lessons again. the whole idea of living with people i don't know yet sounds vaguely familiar ...

~ i'm excited about next year: rooming with laura, megan, and kati ... youth group possibilities ... working out the HNGR path ... learning more about faith ... life is indeed good.

(alright, time to study more ....)
